The FEI CSI 4-Star showjumping competition will be the highlight of the inaugural Al Shiraa International Horse Show at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort from January 11 to 14. Apart from the CSI 1-Star for juniors and young riders, the dressage over two days and various side events, the main competition will serve as a direct qualification for the 2018 World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Canada. Also up for grabs in the CSI 4-Star competition is a cheque of Dhl million. Dhl30,000 is the prize in the CSI 1-Star. The events across the four days are expected to draw more than 150 riders and 300 horses.

Christine Stibi-Fay hat kein Problem mit Katar. Die Wiesbadener Geschäftsfrau hat eher ein Problem damit, dass ein Großteil ihrer Landsleute ein Problem mit Katar hat: „Es sind immer die gleichen Schubladen.“ Für die 49-Jährige ist das Emirat am Persichen Golf ein Traumland. Nicht, weil dort alles traumhaft ist. Sie weiß um Probleme und Missstände in der absoluten Monarchie. Für sie aber hat Katar – das Land, in dem sie rund zehn Jahre lebte und dem sie bis heute auf vielen Ebenen verbunden ist – unendlich mehr Facetten als jene wenigen, die Schlagzeilen rund um die Fußball-WM vermitteln und die der Allgemeinheit reflexartig zu Katar einfallen.

Die vielen anderen, aus ihrer Sicht positiven Facetten des Landes will Christine Stibi-Fay den Europäern, den Deutschen, den Wiesbadenern näherbringen – als Geschäftsfrau und als Brückenbauerin, die Grenzen sind fließend. „Mir geht es darum, Begegnungen zu schaffen, über die sich jeder unabhängig von den Medien selbst ein Bild machen kann“, erklärt sie ihre Absichten beim Mittagessen in einem arabischen Restaurant am Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz, in das sie auch regelmäßig ihre arabischen Gäste führt: „Alles läuft unter dem Leitmotiv Freundschaft“.

Das Pfingstturnier im Zeichen Katars

An Pfingsten werden Zehntausende die Früchte ihres Engagements erleben – beim Pfingstreitturnier im Schlosspark Biebrich. Dieses steht in diesem Jahr unter dem Motto „German-Qatar Friendships“. Christine Stibi-Fay, die schon vor Jahren ein Porträt über sich mit der Überschrift „Machen statt Meckern“ lesen konnte, ist es gelungen, die dem Nationalen Olympischen Komitee unterstehende finanzkräftige Reiterliche Vereinigung Katars (Qatar Equestrian Federation QEF) als Hauptsponsor für das traditionsreiche reitsportliche Großereignis zu gewinnen: “Ich habe den Worten Taten folgen lassen”, fasst sie das Ergebnis ihrer zweijährigen Akquisearbeit zusammen. Die Araber, die auch von anderen bedeutenden Turnieren umworben worden seien, bringen nicht nur Geld mit nach Wiesbaden, sondern natürlich auch einige ihrer besten Reiter und Pferde zum Turnier. Reiten ist in Katar eine der beliebtesten Sportarten, wie Stibi-Fay aus eigener Erfahrung weiß.

Entsprechend begeistert äußerte sich auch der Präsident der QEF, Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, bei seinem ersten Auftritt in Wiesbaden angesichts der Aussicht, über die Station Wiesbaden auch den Pferdesport des Emirats insgesamt auf internationaler Ebene voranzubringen. Gemeinsam mit QEF-Generalsekretär Khalid bin Safar Al Hajri, dem Stiby-Fay für die Dauer des Aufenthaltes ein eigenes Büro einrichten wird, strebt er die Teilnahme der katarischen Reiter bei der Olympiade in Rio an.

Auch andere Schubladen öffnen

Katar wird sich in den nächsten Tagen im Schlosspark nicht nur auf den Rücken der edlen Pferde präsentieren, sondern auch ein Zelt aufbauen, in dem kulturelle Beiträge präsentiert werden. „Wir können die Besucher für die arabische Kultur sensibilisieren und öffnen“, schwebt der Powerfrau vor, die umgekehrt für die arabischen Gäste ein abwechslungsreiches Besuchsprogramm gestrickt hat, um sie für Wiesbaden zu begeistern. Zur arabischen Geschäftskultur gehört es, dass Vertrauen das A und O jeder Beziehung ist. Dieses Vertrauen konnte Stiby-Fay über jahrelange Kontakte und Aktivitäten aufbauen – auch absolut problemlos als Frau in einem streng islamischen Land, wie sie ihre guten Erfahrungen in einer „völlig anderen Welt“ schildert. „Die arabische Welt wird oft einfach in einen Topf geworfen“, wird Stiby-Fay nicht müde, „auch andere Schubladen zu öffnen“.

Nischengeschäft als One-Woman-Show

Wenn die Mutter einer 26-jährigen Tochter, eines 17-jährigen Sohnes und dreier „Patchwork-Kinder“ nicht wie im Moment ihr ganzes Herzblut in die völkerverbindenden Aktivitäten rund um das Pfingstturnier steckt, leitet sie als „One-Woman-Show“ erfolgreich ihr unabhängiges Beratungsbüro für deutsch-arabische Geschäftsbeziehungen. „Es ist ein reines Nischenbüro“ beschreibt sie ihre sehr individuelle Betreuung von Geschäftsleuten zur Anbahnung und Betreuung von Geschäften mit den Arabischen Emiraten und insbesondere Katar. „Die Araber haben die Deutschen auf dem Radar, das ist eine Chance, die wir nutzen sollten – und zwar jetzt und nicht in zwanzig Jahren“, rät sie Geschäftsleuten, nicht zu lange zu zögern, um in der aufstrebenden Region Fuß zu fassen.

Sie begleitet Unternehmer – das können CEOs großer Unternehmen genauso wie Startups sein -, die den Markteintritt wünschen, auf Einzelreisen, sondiert im Vorfeld, stellt gezielt Kontakte her und begleitet die Entstehung von Geschäftsbeziehungen. Nebenschauplätze ihres geschäftlichen Schaffens sind die Organisation von Sportevents, hinzu kommt vielfältiges ehrenamtliches Charity-Engagement.

Schicksalsschlag als Wendepunkt

Letzteres liegt ihr besonders am Herzen, seit sie die Krebserkrankung ihrer Mutter 2004 aus dem traumhaften Leben in Katar unvorbereitet heraus riss und zurück nach Wiesbaden führte. „Seither spielt Demut eine große Rolle in meinem Leben, ich bin bescheiden und dankbar, weil ich weiß, dass von heute auf morgen mit einem Anruf die ganze Welt zusammenbrechen kann“, zeigt die lebensfrohe energiegeladene Frau, die auch daran gewöhnt ist, bei ihren Besuchen in Katar im Maybach chauffiert zu werden, ihre nachdenkliche Seite: “Ich habe meine Trauer in Energie umgewandelt.” Gleichzeitig hat die aus Rheinland-Pfalz stammende Wahl-Wiesbadenerin durch den Schicksalsschlag gelernt, dass Arbeit nicht alles sein kann im Leben. „Work hard & enjoy life“ lautet seither das Lebensmotto der Frau, die in ihrer Freizeit gerne tanzen geht – „wenn mir die Musik gefällt, bis fünf Uhr morgens“.

In Turnschuhen unter feinen Leuten

Dazu passt, dass sie auch bei jenen gesellschaftlichen Anlässen in Turnschuhen auftaucht, wo das feine Wiesbaden sich lieber herausputzt. Sie will manches in Wiesbaden ein wenig auflockern und genießt dann den Status der für Schubladendenker etwas schwer einzuschätzenden Exotin. Mit ihrer gewinnenden und ansteckenden Art kommt sie auch im legeren Outfit ans Ziel. Das Pfingstturnier wird es – mal wieder – zeigen.
